Why We Do What We Do
The world is at a crossroads. We live in an age which is increasingly driven by consumption, and it is no small fact that humans are exacting a critical toll on the Earth’s resources. But it is also an age of wondrous communication—a world driven by the search for knowledge and connectivity. At a time when giant corporations seem to have a grip on the market, local, green producers are succeeding internationally because of the Internet. In a world rife with unethical business practices, a banker in Bangladesh can still win the Nobel Prize for microloans that benefit the poor.
How does ECOoutpost play a part in these changing times?
We believe in a globally interconnected world, where the biological, psychological, socio-economic, and environmental phenomena can be addressed holistically. By joining forces with Integrated Conservation and Development Projects (ICDPs), for example, we are able to link producer groups and services directly with markets at the grassroots level—while simultaneously encouraging the conservation of the ecology in which they are based.
As a member of the ECOoutpost community, you have direct access to quality, eco-friendly goods and services from around the world. This process is designed to aid ICDPs by reducing or eliminating unsustainable practices and promoting alternate livelihoods and sources of revenue at the local levels. We do this by increasing awareness of the benefits of environmentally preferable goods and services, supporting efforts to increase such programs, and facilitating their trade expansion.
