LETTERS FROM MOTHER EARTH TO THE HUMAN RACE
- 1 -
By David Short
Dear Humanity,
You win. You’ve proliferated the planet with billions of your kind. You’ve created roadways and airways so that you can see all parts of me. You’ve discovered and mined many resources I have to offer. You have flourished in all sorts of climates. You’ve faced many challenges over time and proved victorious. I must applaud your many triumphs. You have conquered my elements. You’ve done many great things. That I cannot deny. You are survivors. You have overcome obstacles and cured diseases. There is hope in you.
I hate to ruin this moment of surely deserved praise, but I’m afraid I must tell you that I am sick. And, although I say this with some trepidation… at times you’ve been careless and greedy-even cavalier. In your haste, you’ve dumped your waste in my waters and on my soil. My lungs are polluted. I hope I do not get worse, but I fear that may not be entirely up to me. Will you help? I hope so. I won’t take up any more of your time. I know you’re very busy.
Sincerely,
M.E.
